Really BIG gator??
1 Attachment(s)
Hey Val is this picture for real? Supposed to be a 23 footer killed by the Game Wardens in Lake Istapoka. Tell me it ain't for real!!
|
Well, one thing it is, a great example of how to pose and present a subject to the camera in a way that makes it look larger than life. The subject (gator) is much closer to the camera than the:
-LEO -truck -back hoe Going by the diameter of the rope and width of the bucket (which doesn't look like it's attached to a monster sized machine) I'd say 23 feet is a bit over optimistic. TBO |
Also consider that BOTH sides of the sling from the crane disappear BEHIND the gator's neck, and we have a simple Photoshop-job.
(Even if not, if the LEO is 6" tall, the gator is only a touch more than three times that.) My guess would be about a 12-footer, cut and pasted "closer" to the camera. Still a very big gator, but no 23-footer has lived on this planet for 150 million years - if then. |
I agree it is a photoshop, right click and save it, then open it and examine the edges of the gators and you'll see the pixellation.
but the single biggest giveaway is readily appearent..... the officers shadow is almost directly below him, but there's no shadow from the gator, and the shadows fromt he officer and backhoe dont match up, the officers shadow and the pickups are slightly to the left, yet the backhoe's is almost straight down. |
No its not, thats been going around for a while and like they said its just the angle......but....they do have some monsters in that lake.....my son has a fish camp on it.....he doesnt let the lab out of his site or near the water..
|
Sorry to disagree with you Val, since we all know you do know your gators, but this particular photo is a fake.
the reason listed above are just the simple ones. by saving the photo, and then viewing the edges of different parts of the picture you can see how the pictures pixellation ( the dots/squares that makeup the picture) is different. It is physically impossible to have more than one size of pixellation in any single picture taken with only one camera. any single camera, at any set resolution, will _always_ have exactly the same pixellation in every photo taken with the same resolution setting. It's how it works. You can clearly see at least three different pixellations in this photo, and there may be more, if i wanted to look harder at higher magnification. you also cannot have shadows going in different directions without having multiple light sources, and multiple light sources in broad daylight would have noticableeffects elsewhere in the picture ( ie flash reflections from painted reflective surfaces, flashwash in other shadows etc etc) I've been a closet admirer of many of the "poser/photoshoppers" , to do a good one takes a hell of alot of skill, technique, and patience, and this photo is most definately photoshopped. I am not saying what is decribed is not possible, just that _THIS_ picture is not what it is claimed to be. |
I'm sorry I meant to say No it wasnt real , but as I re-read I confused myself and others your 100%right....see I been gone so long you guys gotta re-train me.......
|
Skeet's questions was:
"Val, is this photo for real?" Val's response: "No, it's not." Sounds like a good answer to me. Now, if you read her post right after the one before it, then it might get confusing. |
Oh I don't know
Val never confuses me. I know what she meant!! I never disagree with a good lookin woman. Best not to disagree with any woman for that matter.:D
|
Fabs how is the new mom and baby??????any pics???
|
That officer need a safety lesson for walking under a load like that.....
|
Fabs, be sure you don't photoshop any pics of your kid...these guys are too observant, LOL!
|
They got some real good photochop programs out nowadays, difficult for the average guy to tell real from fake, that's why they invented snopes I guess, Waidmannsheil, Dom.
P.S. This story says it's 13' 1" and from Texas, but is the same picture: THE FACTS |
My mistake Val, things are nuts here I thought you were replying to me, not skeet, guess thats what i get for thinking again ( puts on duncecap)
Guess i'm just touchy right now, my step-sister is the ACOP of the Noble oklahoma police dept, and anyone and everyone even remotely associated with it, is catching hell from all sides. again my apologies. |

I believe your right.
and 90% of the problems could be delt with easier, if people who didnt have anything to do with it would keep their traps shut, get out of the way, and quit trying to use the situations for personal political gain. or at least thats how i see it. Keep the faith, hopefully it's resolved soon. will send some prayers that way, I think we could all use a few extra |

23 feet is big for a salt water Croc, and would be a record! The largest gator I've heard about was taken in the Achafalia Basin in lousianna, about ten years ago, and it was just under 16 feet! The picture has been going around for some time, and has been said to have been taken everywhere, but the picture actually comes from the Texas, parks, and wildlife! :D |
Here is a 13'6
ME, Jimmy and Chaffee http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL11/...4/72019090.jpg http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL11/...4/72018979.jpg http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL11/...4/72019022.jpg http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL11/...4/71048000.jpg http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL11/...4/71047984.jpg Take my word for it, nobody in the state of Florida, has gotten a bigger gator than us....thats why I am the "VALIGATOR" |
Istapoka has some huge gators in it....but it is a cluster**** when it comes to thinning out the population...this in fact the last week I have decided I am going to apply to the state to be a Nuisance hunter....if they dont screw with me...quite frankly I anint getting out of bed for less than a 9 footer....if I can make an agreement with the state with that in the contract...I'll apply, otherwise its not worth the gas....
|
Hey VAl, you may have answered this before, but what exactly do you do with the gators after you catch them?
|
belts, daytimers, purses...furniture...from the big boys
one of my biggest buyers are motorcycle seat and accessory business's...........interior design companies... http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL11/...6/77554932.jpg http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL11/...6/39383847.jpg |
Niiiiice, and I hope you don't take this the wrong way but...you got waaaaay more balls than I do, chasing after gators in nothing but an airboat!
|
Hey I got way more room to move around than a few hunters I have seen this season, plus I can cover alot more territory. I saw two young kids in a jon boat the other night...and plenty of small boats out there. Not to mention smaller airboats that would tip over with even a 9 footer in them...we have one especially designed to carry the weight and the people and the gear...and the gators.....so I feel pretty safe in this one...

Tell ya what, I'll donate my share of gators to you :)
|
Go for it dear = I sure like my job as its hunting year round lol
The state and Feds have the strings and hoops but there is ways around that with time. |
I have sent a copy of this photo to the PETA headquarters in Washington, DC and they have confirmed that it is authentic. According to their spokesperson, the gator was last heard saying "don't taze me bro" when it met its final, gory, end. As you know, PETA never gets their facts wrong. They plan to sue somebody.

That one had me fallin out of my chair...good one...
|
the smithsonian has a 25' specimen (stuffed, of course) of a nile crocidile...
peter hathaway capstick killed a 22' croc in africa. it's in one of his books. he described it as being "waist high to me when lying flat on the ground" (after he shot it with a .375 H&H) there are regular reports of 15-20 foot sea-going crocs from "down under". alligator mississippiensis regularly reach 8-10', 10' and larger are not as common but can be found. there are reports of alligators being found in waterways as far north as oklahoma now. i read a report from a florida state fish and game biologist who said "i don't believe the alligator was as endangered as thought. it made a recovery much too fast. a matter of 6-8 years. i think it was able to seclude itself well enough" where the photograph may not be of a "real 23 footer" it still tells us these leviathans exist and do get bigger than we might imagine. i have a book named "eyelids in the morning" about crocodiles in lake rudolph, africa. if you can get it, look at the size of some of them! it even shows some of the remains of victims of croc attacks. |

one 10'2" this weekend.... |
so how many belt and shoes is that???
|
None, those size gators are best for motorcycle seats and accessories, furniture, daytimers, stuff like that..smaller 5-8 footers are better for belts and shoes, I like using the throats for shoes...boots to be exact...
