Gun buying hysteria is common
I called my favorite gun shop today to inquire about the availability of used military firearms. The answer was that the shelves are bare. They have sold out of just about everything. Orders to their distributors result in frequent backorders. I suspect this situation will continue for some time to come. All the best...

Gil,
IF the many gun-buying folks had VOTED on November 6, 2012, maybe there would be NO Frenzy today! ALSO, IF what they are buying is BANNED, then all the recent purchases will render gun buyers in ILLEGAL POSSESSION! Adam |

When I went to the SS office there were about 50 people there. About 6 of us were old, the rest were looked to be younger than 30. I have a bi-polar grandson who with meds is normal however he manages a kiss on the lips from Uncle every month. Also he is able to collect food stamps. Very little incentative for him to get a job not that he can find one.

Skinny is right..When I had my gun shop I had to keep the 4473s for 20 yrs..and after I got rid of the older stuff the BATF agent chastised me for throwing the ones away older than 20 yrs..

Speaking of frenzy, I was in a LGS this morning. M1...service grade IHC.$2600....I do not kid you!!! I handed it back before I dropped it..LOL

ObamaClaus
If the Bums had to work for what they get for doing nothing from ObamaClaus you would see alot more finding jobs. I would make them all work doing something picking up trash from the parks and roads sweeping the sidewalks or streets. If you didn't work then you wouldn't eat. Don't like it then get a real job.
Come to think of it maybe our congress should get a real job. |
The saga continues
I visited two very large gun shops on Saturday. They did not have a single round of .22 l.r. ammo. Other ammo was well picked over. The shelves of new and used firearms were very sparse. The crowds were thick and it took 30 to 45 minutes on the phone to get a background check completed.
Some of us saw this coming and stocked up when we could. All the best... Gil |
I was looking for an 11-87 in 20ga. Was told they don't have them and don't know when they will get them. They way things are looking now is Nobama isn't going to get his ban on rifles. May get it on mag's. Right now there is legistation in the People's republic to force every gun owner to carry liability insurance on guns so that if anybody steals them and uses them in a crime you will have insurance to cover YOUR liability in the action. Well there is some of the problem. Talked to one of my wholesale suppliers back east..He had his largest one day sale of his career(since the 60's) 2 Friday's ago.. No Primers no ammo no powders to speak of and his gun supplies are next to zero..He's got about 4 million dollars in orders over 3 months back unfilled and no promises for when they will be. I did a few days at the Shot Show..but I was mostly working for a major manufacturer so didn't get to see much.. New stuff coming...I think they will require background checks on ANY sales of firearms..even between family members and definitely at gun shows..With hours on the phone for Nics checks now..can you imagine gun show weekends with approx 500 shows going on any weekend plus 25000 dealers running their shops..and all the every day gun owners trying to sell their personal firearms ...They ain't 'nuff Nics checkers to get even half the job done.. and I truly think they will start to keep all the background checks on file forever..(illegal right now). I've been talking to a few people and many are saying they don't care what happens with Assault rifles..just leave their blah blah blah guns alone..the old divide and conquer. In the coming years..we are screwed as far as personal rights..including gun rights..Homeland security is going to rule and make rules for our own good ya know. personally never had much use for Homeland Security. I mean we already had the FBI..and all the police depts. Homeland security was formed to usurp as much power as possible from the people of this country in the name of our safety..What BS. Boy I'm rambling now.. Anyway..as far as getting the shelves restocked at the gun shops..It's gonna take a while. You are gonna see many prices soar also. Right now primers are selling when available for upwards of 40 dollars per 1000..locally that is. And I had an idiot offer me 2500 bucks for an AR-10 and 1500 for an AR-15..sheesh..People are running scared. If I had some I would be rich.. getting ready to start reloading 223 right now..Luckily I have much brass and bullets..and nuff primers for more than my own use.. Liability insurance JUST IN CASE your guns are STOLEN?? Again..it isn't the criminal's fault..it's yours for choosing to own a firearm!! Will we ever get the blame taken off the innocent person's back...and put it where it belongs??? D**m Touchy feely do gooders!

Skeet,
I was in Vegas for Christmas and New years, went to the largest gun show Vegas has on the 29th and 30th of December. This show is about 300 tables, maybe. The lines, one to buy a ticket and one to get in, was about 10,000. There were people scalping 30 round AR mags to the line. And there was virtually no one in line with anything in hand. They all came to buy. I put on shows for 10 years and followed the circuit for about 25 and it was the damnedest thing I have ever seen. There was an ammo dealer there with a truck load of ammo, in crates on pallets, loaded into the building on a fork lift. That ammo was all gone in 2 hours. The cheapest AR I saw in the place was $2,300 and they were selling the cast aluminum billets for lowers, uncut and un-drilled, for $130, not just priced, but selling them. I saw AR uppers, just last year that were $289 with prices at $1,300 and a bunch with the prices tore off the tags. Just nuts O. One thing I did see a lot of, was Benjamins changing hands. Left the show and went by New Frontier Armory, the polymer lower folks. It was scary there also, it looked like a gun vacuum cleaner had been run through the place. Almost anything that went bang was gone. O'Bozo should get the marketing man of the year award. The firearms industry aught to give him a big wet kiss. Ed |
Well Ed.. I was just a demonstrator.. As far as shipping...especially backorders I heard NO guarantees of any kind. Even the gun companies are kinda running scared They have never seen a precedent of this kind of activity. They to a man and lady pretty much believe we are screwed big time. But the companies are building stuff fast as they can..just trying to make up backorders. I was told by a couple of Industry guys they were allocating serial numbers to wholesalers and retailers just so they can have 'em on record as sold by a certain date.. Don't know if that will help.. As far as me..no new guns lately..but I did buy another Dillon Super 1050..and i am figuring what i am taking to the next show i am going to do.....shotguns..many shotguns..Tactical shotguns..whatever that is LOL!! BTW I have had at least 10 calls about short bbls or plain bbls for 870 shotguns..so they can cut 'em off if hunting bbls. People are becoming paranoid I think
|
Skeet, I've been to Shyda's a few times lately and they have been packed.
Some Kimber 1911's, reolvers and some plastic guns were left in the case. You could sense the panic with some of these folks. |
Talked tyo a couple of industry guys connected and I have been told Ruger is backordered on 10-22 semi auto rifles more than 600 thousand units as they call 'em..about 2 years sales..backordered. Skinny I talked to Shirks up in Lebanon..and they are essentially out of business till they start getting more stuff in wharehouses..No Primers no ammo..little powder and Large backorders..course they back-order this time of year because of the Shot show..where they introduce new items...and mainly new pricing. LOL!! Meaning the companies making the stuff we all love to use...
|
Skinny, Panic might be a very good word to use. Thought about it after reading your post and it actually fits, although it seems inapproperate for folks doing something voluntarily. But, I looked at a lot of faces and that is in fact, pretty much what I saw in the eyes. They were either panicked or crazy as a s##t house rat.
I have tables at Tulsa and hope all of this has settled out some, on the positive side, before April. But right now, I have no reason to go to a show, I want a few things but they will keep until the crazy stuff gets settled down. Ed |
Skeet, are you still talking like you're in Md?
"Up at Shirks" LOL I'm going past Shyda's this week and will stop by to see how it looks. They had lots of primers and powder about a week ago. Seemed like most people were buying ammo rather than components. Rapier, I prepared for this sort of thing quite awhile ago. Some of my friends (who didn't prepare) joke that they are coming to my bunker if it hits the fan. Said nope they aren't. You were told numerous times and refused to listen so this is what you get. :D Of course I'd help them out but now they're starting to understand that preparedness is not paranoia. |
Nope.. I am in Wyoming right now..going back to Vegas next weekend and will be back there in March April..A friend picked up an order from Shirks before the SHTF so I have another 80 or 90 thousna primers back there..and somer powder.. But i have much much powder.. In fact a guy here is picking up 40 lbs today.. He reloads for other people..personally I wouldn't do that.. And you are right..being prepared is NOT paranoia Out here it is near impossible to find .224 bullets and 9mm and 40 bullets for that matter..Primers are GONE except maybe Large rifle mags and not many of them..The good powders are pretty much gone. But this is almost exclusively rifle country. I have plenty of 22 ammo right now but you can't find any in Cody or in Billings Mt either.. I had a fellow here yesterday who saw a brick of 500 Federal 22s sitting on one of my loading benches offered me 25 dollars for it..since he has 4 boys in their teens i let him have it..I had gotten it out of the vault for a friend..and his wife. She likes to shoot..and she's pretty. Hey maybe when I get back there we can get together for a bit. I never have much time of my own when i come back..Have another latyhe to pick up
|
Sounds good. I'll show you the honeybees and the smithy.
|
Got honey for sale?? Momma uses it..but only if it's natural
|
We won't have any till late Spring.
It will be raw treatment-free. Not the super clear, possibly imported, variety in the store. |
Current reality
I was in several large gun shops over the weekend and they were mobbed. The stores could sell anything on the shelves or in the racks. I did see powder backorders had come in and there was an ample supply on hand. Primers were available only in Federal brand. The shops that I visited have not raised their prices on guns, ammo or components. I suspect this hysteria will start die down once folks max out their credit cards. I believe that before long we will have hit a saturation point and things will start to improve. All the best...

Seawolf,
I think you are 100% right on man, but unfortunately many gun owners decided that they would not vote if one guy was not perfect rather than pick the best they had to pick from. What we saw was the result of a low turn out and fraud at the polls. The last thing I want to hear is a non voter belly aching about the result, it got what it deserves. So, I think we are of the age where we should understand that you take 60% of what you want VS 100% of what you do not want. I am just afraid we have seen the result of "well I just will not vote" stupidity. Ed |
