6X45 Cartridge
I just bought a whole bunch of reloading items from a fellows estate. In the die sets there was a set of dies I can't ever remember hearing of. The die set was made by CH and in the caliber of 6X45. Anybody heard of this one. I can't remember hearing of it...but I surely don't know it all. Looks to be a pretty small case.... Maybe like a 223 case necked up to 6MM? Also go a set of RCBS 300 Whisper dies. I know of that one. He also had the bbl for the Contender so I bought the 300 Whisper BBL. Any info would be appreciated

Skeet, the 6x45 is the 222 Rem case necked up to 6mm.
It was primarily a bench rest match wildcat- light sporter class BR shooting required 6mm (minimum) bore. Back in the day when the 222 was the leading BR cartridge, the 6x45 was used a lot, too. So was the 6x47, which is the 222 Rem magnum necked up to 6mm. The latest Hodgdon manual has data for both cartridges, I believe. |
Thanks Jack
I had heard of the 6X47 but not the 6X45. Might be a nice round for a Contender. I also got a set of 7MMTCU dies. I am going to have to try that one out. Have a friend with a bbl for the Contender in that caliber. The 6X45 wasn't listed in my (somewhat) dated copy of Barnes Cartridges of the World>:D

Skeet, I had a small brain cramp:rolleyes:
The 6x45 is based on the 223 case, not the 222 case. 6mm-222 is sometimes known as 6x43. |
I thought to myself an AR in 6x45 would be kinda neat.
However, its been replaced by the 6.5 Grendel for a neat AR15 platform for an intermediate round. |
