Need a new one
 

I need to add a new rifle and am needing some suggestions. Here are a few that I am looking at.

Mosing Nagant 1938 Carbine 7.62X54R

Russian M91/30 7.62X54R

Russian M44 7.62X54R

Schmidt Rubin K31 7.5X55

What is your vote and why?

I say yes, pick one of those...you'll be fine.

But if you want a real answer, I'd pick the M44 just cause I have one, there's not really any other reason I base it on.

You have a nice selection to choose from. I would go for the K31 first and then the M38. I have all arms listed on establishemnt here. If you do not yet have a Mauser, I would suggest a Swede, a Kar98k or Yugo 48A. If you do not have any gas guns, I would suggest a Garand, a Tokarev 40 or a Hakim because they are lots of fun to shoot along with your listed arms. Hope this helps.

I do have a Mauser and Garand. I was leaning to the K31...Don't know why but it just peaks my interest at this time.

Like Adam, I have all of the mentioned rifles. It depends what you like and handles well. I have several K31 rifles. Just a comment, most of the Schmidt-Rubin K31s advertised seem to have perfect bores, but the stocks tend to be a bit chewed up. I got three from a dealer who overstates the condition of his guns. The "hand-picked" rifles (at additional cost) were a disappointment. I managed to clean them up, stain the stocks and make them look half decent. Ammo can be costly unless you reload.

My preference regarding the Russians are the 1891/30s. The 1944s are cute and handy, but are about as well-balanced as a short railroad tie (unless you remove the folding bayonet). I guess one can get used to how they handle. Again, ammo is cheaper if you reload or shoot the Russian softpoint hunting ammo. These are neat guns. All the best...

Thanks for the input Gil. And just as you said these are said to have "Excellent Bores, but expect some stock wear". I do reload so that will help as long as I can find components.

There are cases available to load this classic cartridge. In a bind, .284 Winchester cases can be reformed into 7.5 brass. All the best...
