T/C Hawken .50 Flint for $100
I was in a gun shop today at lunch and saw a T/C Hawken .50 flintlock with a hang tag of $150. It looked to be in NRA excellent to mint condition. The stock was terrific and the brass a bit dull, but it was a sound gun. The was a slight boo-bbo on the exterior of the barrel. I asked Friend John (the shop owner) what he had to have for the rifle. He let it go for $100.
This evening, I cleaned the bore, cold blued the spot on the barrel, put linseed oil on the stock, polished the brass, replaced the frizzen and flint. She looks wonderful and all for $100. I did tell two other chaps who said they wanted a decent flintlock about the rifle. Since they could not or would not get it in gear, I bought it. All the best... Gil |
Gil,
That sounds like a great deal; some folks want that much for just the barrel. I like flinters and also like T/C Hawkens. Adam |
I've got one of those in .45. I payed $85 for it, because it wouldn't spark. Thompson replaced the Lock free of charge, even though the gun was around 20 years old. I had to touch up the bluing and refinished the stock with Linspeed. It's probably my favorite shooter.

T/C frizzens
I do what the local blackpowder shop does to improve T/C ignition, I throw the factory frizzen away and replace it with one from Lyman. The local shop does about 500 frizzen replacements a year. The T/C case-hardened frizzen is less reliable. All the best...
