Swiss K31

Finally got my K31 in. Here are a couple of pics of it and the first target that I shot. This was at 100 yards with GP11 ammo. Will start reloading as soon as I get all of the components in. The bore is in good condition from what I can tell and the stock does need some work on it. Over all I am pleased.

local milsurp dealer has 3 right now, but the ole J.O.B. (just over broke) has to refresh the cash coffers first.

Swiss K31

Very nice rifle and shooting. Not so long ago these rifles were seen at local gun shows for $500. Fortunately, the prices have come down considerably. The rilfes I have seen lately are priced around $100 to $150. As you point out, the bores are excellent and the stocks show significant wear. These guns represent real value. One of these days they will be hard to find. All the best...

OK Guys, I went out to a gun show this weekend looking for 284 Win Brass and found some Norma #17511 180 grain Soft Point Semi Pointed BT. This guy had 2 & 1/2 boxes (50 shells). I picked them up for $35. This is loaded ammo from Norma not reloads. Did I make out OK or did I get hosed on this deal. I did find my other brass as well.

$14.00 a box

Dale,
That is not too bad, especially when you need the brass. I would suggest that you check with Midway at www.midwayusa.com. They sometimes run sale lots of Winchester and other brands of brass that are hard to find. I have already ordered bulk (50 or 100) Winchester and other brass from a gun shop (when I needed .348 cases). It is cheaper and if you can wait, it can be a really good deal. All the best...

My K31 came in today. I had the choice of 2 rifles, the one I chose was the newer of the 2 by 5 years but the wood matched, everything else was pretty much the same. Several people came into the shop while we unpacked 'em. After I got a good chance to inspect both weapons we let the spectators at 'em. After I explained how a 2 stage trigger worked they were amazed at how smooth the trigger actually was. I'm pretty sure we sold the second rifle and maybe a couple more.

He's got a sporterized 1911 S. R. sitting in the corner, he wants $165 for it. How hard is it to find wood and furniture for 'em?

Gil Martin 03-05-2005 05:53 AM

It depends

DogYeller,

You did allright! The K31s are a real bargain and one of these days they will be long gone and when found will be more expensive.

Regarding wood and metal for a 1911 Schmidt-Rubin, it depends. I would check with Sarco, Inc. at www.sarcoinc.com, Marstar at www.marstar.ca and Gun Parts Corporation at www.gunpartscorp.com. Another source might be Southern Ohio Gun at www.southernohiogun.com. If these places do not have 1911 stocks or metal, perhaps they can give you a lead. All the best...

I picked up my K-31 today. As soon as I got home with it I took it apart to check the stock's numbers. It looks like I've got a rifle with 100% matching part numbers.

It doesn't show up in the photos but I have a birch stock with a lot of bright grain. It'll show when I give it a new finish.

Looks good. I am starting to work up loads for mine. I see a lot of shooting coming up. :)

DogYeller 03-08-2005 11:50 AM

Dale, do you shoot Military Bolt Action Bench Rest Competition?
http://www.okcgunclub.org/military/mb/main.html

I haven't yet but it looks like I may have a little bit more time this year and I've thought about giving it a try.

Dale 03-08-2005 08:28 PM

I haven't shot any yet. I am a member of Red Castle here in Tulsa and they do Military Bolt Shoots about once a month. They are always on a Saturday and I am generaly working on Saturdays. :(

Red Castle Events Calendar
