My Lazerbeam....
 

I belong to a hunt club that has hunting leases all over California and Oregon and once a year we open up a number of properties for Varmint hunting only. Yesterday I had my yearly reservation for the squirrel shoot and it's the first time I have had my Weatherby Accumark Super Varmint Master .22-250 out for the long pokes since I installed the new Leupold VX-III 8.5-25x50 Long Range scope.

MAN, this thing is an absolute lazerbeam!

It simply kick's ass now! I went 4 for 4 on confirmed kills just beyond 450 yards on our dirty little ground squirrels. Probably not a major accomplishment for you G-Hog or Prarie Dog shooters which we don't have here but keep in mind our squirrels are only 8-9" tall and 2-3" wide when standing!

We were having way to much fun drilling these pesky varmints so I didn't take any photos of our shoot unfortunately but I did shoot one of my "Beam" before I put her down to rest in the safe today!

I'm thinking of changing my moniker to "Mini-Skinny", what'ya think? Or maybe "Mini-Me" :p

Unfortunately we have only a few properties that allow "squirrel/yote" hunting all year. We just picked up a new lease close to home that is year round, the other couple are a distance of about 3 hours away which would still be just fine for a weekend trip of "mini-skinny" shooting. Now yotes are somewhat of a different thing. We are encouraged to drill yotes if seen on any of our ranches regardless during Deer and Pig seasons but again, they are not specified as a sole target species. I'm really not sure why we don't have more leeway in that respect on most properties. The club has a season on Wild Pig hunting even though it is year round here in California. They do that primarily for management reasons which is understandable as it prevents a property from having its population completely dessimated. We go through the summer months with little to no hunting opportunity and that is prime time to nail these mini-skinnys.

Am dropping powder in a few minutes for the 22-250 and the 222. Hopefully I'll get something this afternoon.

450...dang... I think Ive got one praire poodle at 400. Gonna have to bump up to 60 grain V-Maxes for that kind of shooting... Between my bad skills and the wind, its hard to put a thumpin on the vermin that far way.

I did break out the .300 WM and dust a few pups the other day. I feel the Big .30 is a wee bit inefficient of a cartridge for use on such small game... but you can shoot in some darn fast winds and them heavy artillery rounds dont give a second thought to the winds.

Only had time to reload for Bad Karma ( the 22-250) and nailed 6 chucks. Missed one twice. Figured out it was tall grass near the muzzle deflecting my shot. Ranges: 21 yards to 172 yards.
