A tale of two P-38s

I just came from the local gun shop and need to console myself. A chap brought in two P-38s that his grandfather brought home from WWII Europe exactly 60 years ago. He sold them for next to nothing. Seems his grandfather keep peace at home for many years by stashing them in a damp basement. They were as rusted and pitted as some "dug up" guns I have seen from the Civil War. I was offered both of them as "parts guns", but they were beyond reclamation. I feel ill because they were matching ac 42 P-38s that are now useless. All the best...

What a waste.

Gil,

I think the grandad needed to grease up the P-38s to prevent rust. He also needed to "grow a pair" and tell whoever he "had to keeep peace with" to take a hike. He fought one tyrant in Europe in order to come home and cave in to another tyrant! My guns would come first.

Good point, Adam

It is ironic because the day before I bought a Yugoslav 24/47 that had been greased up for about 60 years and it is NRA perfect inside and out. Gun grease would have made a difference on those P-38s. All the best...
