Hey guys thanks, came in right over me....got lots of trees down, no flooding in my area...pool looks like a swamp...and the backyard fence took a beating...never lost power...thank goodness for the hospital grid....but I am still walking around the house and assessing.....thanks for thinkin of me....I usually make out ok...but there are so many that dont...the airports look like disaster areas, there is a whole section of a flyover in Miami that went down....someones butt will cook for that one....a tractor trailer blew over on a overpass and is hanging by a thread...we are getting a real good look, now the helicopters are flying around.....I literally have coconuts cracked in my back yard...weird...dogs did ok...got a little crazy when the brunt of the winds came through.....I'll update later...

"the airports look like disaster areas, there is a whole section of a flyover in Miami that went down....someones butt will cook for that one"

Val:

Not sure what you mean by that. Particularly, what is a "flyover"?

Please educate!

Im so glad ya made out o.k. Val.

gumpokc 08-26-2005 08:00 PM

Glad your ok Val, but on the plus side, if you got flooded. you've got the right boat to use already.

I just caught the last few seconds of a news report that was showing what looked like a section of elevated highway that came down, any idea what that was?

Nulle 08-26-2005 09:37 PM

Tried calling you guys today to see if you were ok but sounds like you are. FEMA called today and I am on 72 hour standby so may be over there this coming week.

Lilred 08-27-2005 06:03 AM

My son in Panama City was actually hoping he's be ordered to evacuate. He said the last time that happended, he ended up about $500 ahead in per diems and reimbursements as well as paid time off. Ah well, I guess when you're 24 life's still just a big adventure!

rubicon 08-27-2005 08:19 PM

Val, Do the dogs seem to sense the hurricane is coming?

Valigator 08-28-2005 04:59 AM

Hey...still pickin up the peices here..a flyover is just like an overpass on an expressway, usually its a little higher and is built after the original highway was built...and keeps the traffic moving at a higher rate of speed ....Gumpokc that was probably what you saw....its reported they hadnt put the correct number of support beams under it...millions of dollars and a year and a half into it...I fear for the next hit though..this thing has gained speed condensed and looks like it really wants to chew and spit out everything it gets near...pray for the gulf coast...I think they may get hurt worse than we did.....thanks for thinkin of me...Nulle I need FEMA Help....

Looking at Weather program now,...

Looks like New Orleans is in for a hard hittin storm.
They are vacuating the city now,..no roads leading in,ONLY out of town.

They are sayin the winds are at approx.160 miles per hr. and building,...
I`ll be praying for eveyone in that area, and past it,...the huricane is never really over after it hits land,..they spawn new problems,...
Val glad to hear you and yours is doing good.

Hope all are ok down south. We made out ok in Kendall, lots of trees down, no electic for three days, but no flooding. Had to sleep with the windows open, three dogs for company, and my Remington 870 beside the bed :)

Wolvie 08-28-2005 02:34 PM

WOW!!!!!!!!

Their sayin "Katrina" could be rated a Cat 6 if the ratings went that high.
I guess they can add a new Catagory now that they have seen one.

175 mph winds,with gust up past 200mph.
30ft serges,...and possibly higher.

Over 1.5 million people in that city (Big Easy) and the President is asking everyone to get out for thier own safety and good.

Here`s a link to see some AWSOME pics of the outer bands and Katrina pics.
