Started a new thread.Did'nt wanna hijack the other one.I just wanna ask you one ?.How many deer do you think get away from the 1 or 2 day a year hunter.You know the type.The ones who drag out their trusty(your fav cart here) that has been in the gun case or in a corner since last season, shoot a box of shells trying to get it on a paper plate at 50 or 75 yard's.And then go out and blast away at a deer running for its life through the woods at 100 yards.What % of the hunters out there are this type of hunter.I know how you feel about LRH.I am also 100% sure you have never done it or seen it done the right way.If you ever wanna go.This is an open invite...Then we can sit back and watch the hunters I talk about above do their thing

No disagreement here, Boyd. The guy who makes one box of shells last five years is as bad as the guy who buys his "expertise".

I believe that a lot of the blame goes to our frenetic lifestyle. A guy (or gal) works at least 40 hours a week, and maybe double that. He spends two or three hours in traffic every day. He has a family to pay attention to; a yard to mow; a car to keep maintained, inspected and licensed; bills to pay; kids to ferry hither and yon. And maybe ten days a year off.

That guy loves to hunt. He either never gets the time to practice with "ol Faithful" or he comes to believe that the latest wundergun he's read about will make up for his lack of practice.

In the woods, he blazes away with ol Faithful; or he whangs away at the first (and maybe ONLY) deer he sees no matter how far off it is.

Both result in lost animals - and more accusatory fingers pointed at hunters by the antis.

Watch it here now, your talking about some of the folks who are going out well prepaired. I know some people who have went out with a barrowed handgun that they have never shot! :eek: I`ll let it go at that because I really don`t wanted to get going on that topic. :mad:

not sure what to say. i guess there are all sorts of hunters in the woods and i'm pretty sure each and every one of them is having a real good time. i mean, that's why we wake up so early and freeze our butts off in the woods each year. to have fun, right? and as long as they're doing it ethically and safely(yes, i realize alot of "hunters" aren't).

i guess i'm the type of hunter that thinks about hunting maybe 5% of the time when srping comes around. then i go back into hunting mode late summer where i become OBSESSED!

i'm 23 and what most would call a "city boy". i love the woods and spend as much time there as i can when other things like women, work, bars, partys, friends, etc. aren't occupying my time. i hunt alone mostly these days. not far from home, maybe an hour to an hour and a half from my front door step. pops just doesn't care to hunt amongst the tons of other hunters the public lands around here hold.

i obsess over gear. i keep my guns clean for the sole reason that I paid for them. nobody else and they're expensive to a guy who doesn't make much $$$.

never shot a deer. killed a couple bears but never a deer. i'll be the first to admit that i can't judge range worth a damn so if i assume it's within a reasonable distance, i'll take a shot. so sue me.

would you wana come down here and do some varmiting, maybe bigame hunting some time. im asking in all honesty. i just checked and your less than 600 miles away. computer said like 10 hours drive time but i know its less than that. spend a few days here. spend the days hunting and maybe do some loads in your 270 to keep us acupied while were not.

actually, i'd LOVE to come hunt out there. for a couple years my sister lived in caldwell so we made the drive several times back and forth and back and forth. real pretty country from what i've seen so far out there.

how much do NR license and tags go for?

You guys are going to make me jealous. I am going to have to learn how to fly a plane so I can participate in the West Coast Hunt Chat excursions.

think you can get an out of state liscence and deer tag for about 300.

$300 ain't bad at all. when does the season generally run for deer and yotes?

I know flying ain't too hard. I did it for about 10 minutes with some of my F-18 flying friends. Of course, it was only in a bi-plane and I didn't have to do any taking off or landing. This was 8 years ago.

Heck, I once taught Iranians to fly jets, so it can't be TOO hard, LOL!!!!


Hey Fabs, they now have this new idea. Called commercial airlines. Works good. They go to Boise and Salt Lake City, too!

hmmm...how would you guys feel about a western huntchat coyote hunt? draw names and pair up. of course it's just an idea.

I've heard that those commercial airlines fly to Florida and California too, and even Italy on occassion.

It all costs money.

If your going to get something going for this winter you can count on me, if it`s not in a deer season back here and we don`t get another ice storm. :( I now have a 31 ft camper so we won`t have to sleep in a tent, although it was alot of fun.
