2-groove Enfield No. 4 Mark I
 

I saw one today in a gun shop with a drop dead gorgeous bore and fantastic walnut stock. The down side was the mismatched bolt and extensive rusting over the receiver and barrel. I had a 2-groove Enfield some years ago and have not seen very many since then. I may pick this one up cheap and clean it up. All the best...

sounds like a plan, i know if it wasen't too expensive i'd do it.

I have heard of 2-groove enfields before, but i really don't know anything more about them, than just the name, care to inform me of what i am missing?

Wartime requirements
 

During WWII, both the British and U.S. made some rifle barrels with 2 grooves instead of 4 or 5. Tests were conducted to determine if 2-groove barrels would provide acceptable accuracy. They can provide adequate accuracy and were permitted for production. It was done to speed up production and cut costs. The U.S. made many 1903-A3 Springfield rifles with 2-groove barrels. I have read that the British and Canadians did make 2-groove barrels for Enfields, but have only seen a few. All the best...

You got it right from the get go! Naturally that Enfield has Left Twist Rifling, eh wot? Someday we need to discuss the Right versus Left Twist rifling. Yes, I have several 2-groove Enfields and Springfields. But, wot is the difference betwixt Left and Right? Happy Holidays.
