Dan Wesson barrel gap.

I have just found and bought a replacement barrel for my Dan Wesson pistol. Due to the fact that my pistol is stainless steel, it has been hard to find a barrel that is not over priced.

My question is about the barrel gap. I can not find the information anywhere. I think I was told years ago when I got the pistol that the gap was .006", but that seem too tight to me.

Thanks for any help you can give.

I once owned a Dan Wesson. .006" sounds right to me. My gun had a little feeler gage for setting the gap.

Allen,
.006 is the factory setting.

However, it is not the most accurate setting for most DW guns. 99% of DW guns do not turn true, as the cylinder turns, the gap gets wider or narrower. The best setting for your gun would be the least amount of gap, at the closest point in the cylinder rotation, that will allow the firing of your intended bullet, without jamming. A cast bullet, due to lube, will require about .0015 more clearance than a jacketed bullet.

I run very narrow gaps in my guns.
