used military rifle caliber dies
 

I was in my favorite gun shop and saw a whole shelf of used rifle caliber dies. They were all RCBS from 1966, 1967 and 1968 in 7mm Mauser, .308 Win., .3006 and 8mm Mauser. Seems some old fellow gave up reloading. The dies were still wrapped in original waxed paper in the factory boxes. They were marked at $15.00 for each set. The shop owner said if I took them all they were $8.00 per set. I took them all. I now have back up dies for some military calibers. All the best...

Good find. My local shop has a "Bargain Table" in the rear of the shop and it always has lots of stuff on the table. I find partial boxes of bullets, reloading dies, slings and whatever every time I go to the shop. Many dies on the table are rusted and I pass on them. Dies in decent shape go home with me and get a wipe down with CLP (Breakfree).

Adam do you really need a 91/30 bayonet? I can get them for about $18 or so.

that's the spike type bayonet, did they ever make a blade type bayonet for them like they did on the russain contract winchester 1895's?

I got a set of 8x57 RCBS dies in the carboard box,wrapped in wax paper at the R&G club swap meet. I think Fred made them.

About used dies
 

I have noticed that most of the used dies encountered have every screw torqued at about 100 ft. lbs. The 6 sets of used dies I bought are in mint condition. However, I had to put them in a padded vise to get them apart. Someone even torqued the allen screw on one of the lock rings so tight it was stripped out.

I make die adjustments finger tight and have never had a problem with my reloads. Anyone else notice used dies that are overtightened? All the best...

Now that you mention it Gill i think your right.

But i also thought the gorilla who loved to over tighten stuff only did it to the dies, sparkplugs, oil filters, and sundry other things around OKC.

Yes all the used dies that I have are been so tight that i had to put oil on them to get them to be lose. All my dies are well lubed and are ONLY FINGER TIGHT.

Yeah, the "gorilla tightened" set screws, etc seem to be common, if not universal, on used dies. That's been my experience, anyway.
I automatically hit all the threads with penetrating oil when I get used dies home.
