Steyr Model 1912 in 7.62 NATO
The local gun shop has a Kar98 made by Steyr and has been arsenal reworked to 7.62 NATO. The receiver is clearly marked Steyr Model 1912 and it is a large ring '98 action. The barrel is a 2-groove 1903-A3 barrel that has been fitted to this rifle. This thing is mint condition and cheap. The shop owner speculates this rifle was either made up to use 7.62 NATO ammo before Austria adopted the FN-FAL, or was for export sales. I have found a reference to a Model 1914 Steyr '98 that was in limited production prior to WWI. I set the rifle back until I decide whether or not to buy it. All the best...

Welcome to the Forum
stolivar,
Thanks for the information. I intend to pick the rifle up next weekend. All the best... Gil |
Steyr is home
stolivar,
I agree with you and picked the rifle up today. The bolt and receiver resemble that found on a 1909 Argentine Mauser. Later today I will take it apart and look closely to see if it is a U.S. 1903-A3 barrel. All the best... Gil |
