H&r/nef
Since I am "rebuilding" my collection of shooters I am thinking on going with the single shot variety. And H&R/NEF seem to have the price tag I need to start over.
I managed to keep my Savage .308 for general game, but want a .223 and .243 I know we have had several discussions on this, but could we start er up once more?:D Thanks..............................Jon |
I have an NEF in .243, bull barrel. Nice little gun.

They are good little guns. Had a 223 that I sold to a friend to get him started varminting, still goes < 1/2" @ 100yds with the loads I developed, wish I still had it. Have a 22 Hornet that's ~ 1" @ 150yds, great pocket field 'chuck killer. Considering the 26" barreled 25-06 for a longer range, fun varminter and probably the 270, was given ~300 pieces of 1X brass and die set by a guy that quit hunting.

I know Marlin owns the H&R rifles now. But didn't H&R and NEF re-join?
I guess I am asking does Marlin own H&R AND NEF, or did they re-split then get purchased by Marlin? |
See the Gun Week article below:
http://www.gunweek.com/2000/marlin1201.html Looks like NEF and H&R were already together under the H&R name, and then Marlin bought H&R. So Marlin, H&R and NEF are all one and the same now. |
NEF/H&R
H&R/NEF Same company, diffrent names for product liability.
Hi Jon, Ben a while, eh? I've a NEF rifle with 2 bbls. .22 Horn & 45/70. Ha a hvy bbl .223 but it didn'd do the job my .222 Rem mag could do, so... I sold it. The triggers are a bit crappy but a competent gun smith can fix that for a few bucks. Ya still in TX? Hnter |
A buddy of mine has a NEF/H&R rifle in .308 You could strike matches with it at 100 yards.

Well now, matches with it at 100 yards! I guess I could start smoking again:rolleyes:
Naw just kidding. But any hope of an affordable one incher is a nice thought. |
Before leaving the states I worked for a while at a Wal*Mart Sporting Goods Dept and was quite surprised at how many NEF rifles we sold. Many buyers later came in for another one so they must have done the job for which they were intended. My only reservation with them was the weight. Gawd they were heavy buggers, but popular. Best wishes.
