.44mag loads for black bears
 

getting a marlin 1894 in .44mag and due to the slow rate of twist, it won't stablize bullets over 300grs. so that rules out the buffalo bore line. can anyone suggest a good factory load they know works on black bears from this rifle? thanks.

You can`t go wrong with hornady`s 300 grain XTP load.

will that rate of twisg stableize the 300gr. bullet?

I use a Ruger 96/44 a lot. I handload for it but usually stay withing factory spec's. For hunting I don't use hollow point bullets. I prefer plain soft points. Take a look at PMC 240gr softpoints. That may do it. I believe there are some others on the market that may work just a well. Check with Hornady they may have some new loads that may work.

.....is the Speer 270 Gold Dot SP. While I have not killed a bear with this load, I have taken a number of large hogs, and 7 whitetail bucks. Pretty much instant death. I handload these in new Starline brass, over 21 grains of H110. My Marlin 1894S gives me right at 1550 Fps with this load. The 270 stabilizes just fine, and from the bench, I get groups hovering around 3/4 inch at 50 yards, and less than 1 1/2 inches at 100.
You can buy these as factory loads also. I believe the Speer number for them is "23968"

In my Ruger 96/44 I have had excellent results on both deer & bear with Reminton 240 grain Semi-Jacketed Hollow Points ( R44MG3 ). Not sure if they are still avalible?

i just read buffalo bore has a loading using these. i wonder how well the penetrate?
