Rocky Mountain Hawken

Got my new rifle the other day. She's a beauty and quite a shooter. No pics til I find someone with a digital camera but here's the brochure pic that came with it.

This target was shot with the very first 5 rounds out of her. I'm happy.

quigleysharps4570,

Nice photo and nice group. I have a similiar "Mountain Rifle" that is .54 Flint. I read where many Mountain Men used flinters after 1820 because they could find agate for sparks where the caplock guys could not find caps afield.

Anyway. The Lyman Black Powder Handbook used 3F almost exclusively for their .54 loads. My accuracy load is 75 grains of 3F, and patched roundball in my .54 Flinter.

Have a good trek afield with your new .54. Best of luck.

Will have to try some 3f in her Adam. Need to break down and get a flinter one day.

Well done!

Now that's what I call shooting. Fine looking rifle, too. All the best...
