E-Collars
 

Hi Guys, just wondering what those of you who use training collars, might recommend for one. This will be my first time using one. Got by for years without one. But alot of folks seem to like them. So will be giving one a try. Will be using it on a Lab 6 months old that will be used for pheasant hunting. Have been looking at the Innotek Ultrasmart. Any recommendations and suggestions in using one would be appreciated. Thanks!--tr

I'm not much of a fan of Innotek. I don't care much for their service. I now run DT and have been using it for going on eight years with not much problem. It seems that both of the collars I now have don"t hold the charge as long now and I'm assuming that the batteries in the collor are probably going bad, but thats a long time for a battery of any kind. I am thinking about getting a new collar also and will probably go back to DT or Sports Dog. Tri Tronics is right at the top of the list, but are rather pricey. I do think they make a good product though. It all depends on how much you want to spend. Good luck.

I use Tri Tronics and I haven't had any issues with it. It is the two collar model (i.e., I can run two collars off of the single control). However, like gsp said, Tri Tronics are rather pricey, but sometimes you do get what you pay for.

I have Tri Tronics and DT and out of the two for the money I like the DT way over the Tronics. More bang for the buck and less problems with the ones I own anyway.

TriTronics and Dogtra are both good companies. VERY IMPORTANT- Be sure you know how to properly use this tool and collar condition your dog. It is a good tool, but can also ruin a dog if improperly used as well. There are good tapes and books on the subject such as material by Mike Lardy and Evan Graham.

This may help? I use to have a rental business, where I'd rent tracking systems, and shock collars. I primarily used TriTronics for training purposes. Yes they are pricey, but you can't beat their customer service & support! If it's not too late that's the system I'd use? If you need more help, I have a lot of paperwork for different systems, I should be able to find a updated price sheet?

Thanks guys for all your input. I really apprecitated it. I finally went with a Sportdog model. She has been wearing it for two weeks now. She is 7 months old now and has been hunting since Sept. 1. For the last two weeks we have been hunting sharptails. One probably shouldn't brag on his pup, but this little girl is some kinda birddog. She has made some very good retrieves so far, and as a bonus to hunting sharptails, we get to work pheasants everytime we go out. Have used the collar very little on her, and that was mostly when she was chasing jackrabbits. She doesn't chase them anymore. Her eyes light up when I get the collar out, cause she knows we're going hunting.

Sportdog is great and you wont have to sell your first born to pay for it . Sounds like you are doing it right with the dog looking forward to the collar.
