Who on earth shoots a .50 BMG
Do you shoot a .50 BMG or other insanely large and powerful caliber? What do you hunt with it and at what range?
|
And what are you asking these questions for? Do I shoot one? Nope. Can I afford one right now? Nope.
Now, if I had won the Mega Millions lottery last week, I would have several of them, along with reloading equipment for it, and my own range. You can bet that I would be hunting the heck out of paper targets. Wouldn't be a bad gun for grizzlies either. Not bad on an elephant or cape buffalo. Only problem is the weight of the gun for those hunting situations, but I would definitely prefer that cartridge for those dangerous animals. |
I made a vow and intend to keep it to own one soon.
I will hunt deer with it. |
I bet it would do a number on prairie dogs, too
|
I'll have one ASAP, probably a ways down the road, but one can always dream...
My reasoning? Quite simply because I can, and for some reason, it's comforting to know that if dinosaurs ever return, I'd have something to fend the off with. LOL:D It would make a great long range round for anything you cared to hunt with it, and although it is probably too much for anything I'd ever hunt here in the U.S. except for the big bears, I ususally prescribe to the "Dead is dead" theory, where there's no such thing as overkill. And as Andy stated, I'd have to try it out on deer.;) :D gd |
I've shot one.
I don't own one . I would own one. I'd shoot ghogs at insane distances! |
Well, my largest is a .375H&H Mag, but I wouldn't call it insane :)
Now a 50 BMG, it'd be great to shoot, as long as you're buying me my ammo :D Most use it for sport / range shooting. This is not a weapon you'd want to carry very far, unless of course, you are a big guy and enter Strong Man Contests, Waidmannsheil, Dom. |
When, not if, I get my grubby paws on one, there is no way Im not sittin up a tripod, or something like it, on the edge of a huge field or ridge (even better where I can see a mile in any direction) and deer hunting with it.
Like GD said, dead is dead. There is no way I could resist shooting a deer, after I get comfortable with it, at long range. As long as you keep it in the ribcage away from the legs, I doubt any meat would be hurt. It may even eliminate the need for field dressing. |
.50 BMG
once again, the wonderful state legilsature of the republik of kaliphornia decided its citizens should not be allowed to own one of this or larger, caliber.
as many of you are aware of, once they were outlawed here, ron barrett of barrett rifles refused to work on the LAPD's .50 BMG's saying; "that's an illegal weapon, i will not work on it..." good for him! he in fact relocated his business to a more firearms-friendly state as a result of the action of our state legislature. anyway... i was able to fire a mcmillan .50 BMG during a trip to the great state of arizona. very impressive...indeed. i would not use one for anything but long distance target. it would destroy anything smaller than a cape buffalo. very expensive ammo and reloading but, nevertheless, would be fun to try to hit a beer can at 2000 yds... |
minihuntur,
Last year at the club a fellow had a bolt action .50 BMG and let us fire a round each. I am glad I had ear plugs AND muffs on as the muzzlebrake is LOUD! Actually, the recoil was not too bad. I will get one someday to keep the chucks at bay on my farm. If the lightning don't kill 'em, the thunder WILL. LOL. Adam |
AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
What if i like the ribs!? MUCHOMEATLOSS!!!!! but it be fun to get deer, 30lbs is a bit heavy, but would reduce the shoulder pains

I got one
from a man I know in Wyoming. If I can get it lugged up in the mountains I will hunt an elk with it. Older Semi Auto. Heavy and not much recoil... As stated ...LOUD

Fabs.....eat your heart out...it's the "STANG" pics again.;) |
I'm crying over the gun and the car, but you need to straighten that picture frame out. Sheez.

Just a comparison of what we're talking about, took a couple pictures that kinda give a relationship and I found quite interesting, Waidmannsheil, Dom.
