This day in HISTORY, Part II.

Question: What happened on September 23, 1806?

The United States, such as it was, and President Jefferson waited impatiently to learn the outcome of the event concluded on this date in 1806. What was it?

The answer will be posted three days from today.

The return of the Lewis and Clark expedition.

gspsonny03,

You nailed it!

Lewis & Clark left St. Louis in May 1804 and returned to St. Louis on September 23, 1806. If you have not read their Journals, you will find it a good read. I got a one-volume abridged version that was real history in the making.

I have not read their journals, but have read a few books on their travels. I have always enjoyed reading about the early history of this country.

I was out west for a Mule deer/antelope hunt back in 2004....at one of the rest areas in S.D. there was a very interesting display on L &C.....had a replica of the ship they used, some of the trade goods they carried, ect.
I thought the whole exhibit was cool!
