Cap n Ball revolvers

I already have one (an 1858 Remington), but I have been thinking about adding another one to my collection. I got out the Cabela's catalog and I see that they have an 1851 Navy with white grips that looks pretty neat, and they also have the 1860 Army revolver as well. I already shoot a .44, but I guess it's no big deal to buy another bullet mold :D

Any particular reason you would choose one over the other, other than asthetics (mechanical soundness, accuracy, ect)/

BTW: What diameter ball does a .36 cap n ball revolver take? My '44' takes a .451" diameter ball.

Mr. 16 gauge,

The Lyman Black Powder Handbook says to use a .375 roundball in the 1851 Colt.

I have two Remington New Army M1858 revolvers and much prefer them to the Colts, 1851 or 1860. I have a M1860 Colt .44 and the rear sight is a notch in the hammer nose. I prefer the Remington's topstrap to the Colt's open top configuration.

Real guns

I happen to have 3 original Colt revolvers. . 1st is a 31 cal Baby Dragoon. Only about 20% condition but I shot it a bit in the past. Just worth too much now to shoot. As is the 1851 Navy and the 1860 Army. They are both in about 35-40% and the Navy shot really well. The Army not as well. Never slugged the bore but it seems I should have to use a little larger bullet. I also have one or two of the remakes that Colt sold quite a few years ago. both are new in the box. Think I'll sell one at the gun show this fall. The others are spoken for if I ever sell 'em. If I croak momma will have enough to get around on for a while:p I even have a Colt marked bullet mould for the 31. Kinda neat as the gun and mould were given to me.
