New skillet lid
I just got a lid for one of my cast iron skillets and there's a residue that looks a lot like rust on the underside. The tag said it was pre-seasoned so it shouldn't be rust but I've never seen anything like this on any of my cast iron. Any ideas as to what it may be?

Just a guess but the previous owner might have done a half fast job of seasoning. Take a wire brush to it and re-season it. See what happens. The previous owner might not have known his butt from his elbow. Best wishes, Bill |
Nope...
The previous owner was Cabelas. The lid is made by Lodge and I bought it brand new. If it had been used the first thing I'd have done was brush and reseason it.
