This weren't a yard sale find but...

I've found a bunch of guns lately. Bought a nice 660 Rem in 6mm not so long ago. Sold it and made a bit of a profit too. Talkin to a guy yesterday and mentioned the 6mm and he told me he had one he wanted to sell too. Well he showed me the gun and turned out to be a 788 Rem in 6mm...had a 2X7 Leupold on it. Bought it for 300 bucks just cause. In nice shape too. He also had a Colt Anaconda 44 and a Python 6 inch 357 as well as a Colt Diamondback 22(in the box). Diamondback is now mine for 350. He wants 600 for the Python and doesn't know about the 44 yet. The 2x7 Leupold on the 788 was a compact rimfire scope..but the guy killed a few elk with this rifle too. Got a box and a half of ammo and 40 empties. Not yard sale prices but nice guns anyway. And I found a nice old RCBS A2 press yesterday for 75 bucks...and that is a yard sale price as far as I'm concerned. Guy had 2 Rockchuckers too but they were pretty dirty. He wanted the same for them as the A2.. He also had a Savage 99E(blond stock) and a Winchester 95 Saddle ring carbine in 30 USA and an ol Ithaca 12ga pump with vent rib he wanted to sell. I'll be bought out here soon!!:D :D

Well this were a yard sale find

Stopped at a yard sale this AM before I went to the state skeet shoot. Guy had a 1/2 box of 9mm ammo on the table. 1 buck..so I asked if he had a gun it went in and he sure. Went inside and got a copy of a Browning Highpower(no darn it it weren't a Browning. Hungarian made ..Feg i think..it was as new with 2 mags..guy said 75 bucks so I just hadda buy it..even if it are a piece of crapo 9mm.:D :D Bought another gun also but it really wasn't at yard sale prices

GoodOlBoy 09-01-2008 07:13 AM

Skeet if it was the FEG budapest made model it may look like a pos but with a spring replacement it will live a LONG LONG time and function EVERY time. Good buy IMHO.

Hey GOB

You hit it right it is an FEG imported by Century Arms Intl in St Albans. It doesn't look bad..in fact it is as new..it's just in that almost useless 9mm (just my opinion). Trigger pull is a little heavy but all in all a pretty well made gun I think.

The other gun I got wasn't priced like this one..I bought an Ithaca Mag 10 Deluxer gun .Paid 475 bucks but I got 8 boxes of ammo for it. In really good condition too. Mechanically it is as new. Blue thinning on the receiver a bit but they did that anyway. Heavy so and so but they really are shooters....at least all of 'em I ever had were. Better shooters than the Remington in my opinion..and I had quite a few of both.

My keyboard is sticking a little:confused:

skeet,

IF you think the 9mm is "useless", then why not shoot it twice or three times on the target of opportunity? What for loads are you using? I carried a 9mm as a duty gun and it did ok by me. Yes, a few times I did shoot twice, but that was ALWAYS enough.

I carried 9MM because it was the duty gun. My Glock 19 had 15 rounds in the mag, so what was not to like? When did a 9mm let you down? I am still here and my Glock 19 is in the vault.

I didn't say it wasn't effective. I just said I didn't like the 9..for that matter I don't like Glocks either. Just my opinion. As far as 9mm being effective. Had a good friend that got into a gun fight with a felon..eneded up dead after putting 5 rounds into him. Killed the guy..but he got one round into the cop with a 45 and killed my friend.. Yep I understand stuff happens. ....and this was many moons ago. 9 Ammo is probably much better now....but so is 45 ammo.

I do however like some of the guns that are chambered for the 9mm...such as this copy of the Browning. Always liked the Browning...and the S&W 39..in fact I have a 639 and it shoots good(which means better than I can shoot). I actually have a love affair with Smith revolvers. Love 'em. I've shot almost 30 garden raiding rabbits with that Smith 28 so far this summer. But I carry a 1911..... when I carry.;) Even round the ranch..good coyote killer when I can get 'em under 50 or so yards. Got one the other day at about 30 yds. Ya know..if ya don't have a fire stick(long gun) in your hands they don't run till it's too late.:D

Might have ya'll some good deals on some stuff iffin ya'll are interested...got a bunch of oddball shootin stuff as leftover inventory in a store we took over....pistol grips, scope mounts, a few choke tubes and a ton of muzzleloader stuff. (which some we'll keep)
and some really oddball rifle and pistol shells too...but I dont think I can ship em???

You win

Skeet,
I think you win the prize for the most guns in the cabinet - or at least the most quality guns for the least amount of money. I'm getting jealous.

skeet 09-02-2008 11:33 PM

Nawww

I don't hold any prizes. I do like to buy and sell a few guns. I only keep a few of what I buy. If it is something I really want or like it stays..otherwise I sell it to make a profit so I can buy more guns or shooting stuff of all sorts. Helps to pay for my shootin expences too. In the past the expences were quite high.

skeet,

I am sorry to hear about your friend. Yes, 9mm ammo is getting better; the most useless is Ball as I hear from friends in Iraq.

I like OLD Colt automatics and OLD S&W revolvers. My first duty gun was a M28 4-inch, which I still have. I carry afield here at the farm. I like the 6-inch M27 very much. I have carried the 1911, a P-38 and a Luger a time or two.

I found many fine guns at yard sales and need to get another vault.

More Vaults

That is a great concept. Keep buying those yard sale guns Adam.

My 28 is a 6 inch..I also have a 586 a 19... 2 -29's..a 24.. a 66 but it is new in the box(first year) and a 629 which I'm not real enamored with so it is gonna be going A guy gave one of the new ultra light S&W revolvers to try.It was in 44 Special and would be a nice light gun to carry..but it wasn't much fun to shoot.. I also have 3 Colt SAA..all in 45 and one made in 1900 in 38-40. Also have 3 original Percussion Colts.a Baby Dragoon in 31..A Navy Colt 36 and a 1860 Army 44 So I do like Revolvers. But I have 14 1911's. Why I don't know..but they all work..every time. Even Ball ammo rolls coyotes over. Can't say that about 9mm though. That stuff really sucks. Now 357 softpoints or hard cast bullets roll 'em over every time. Fill up a couple more gun safes:D :D Starting to see more military bring backs all the time out here..specially at auctions. Got to an auction to late one day and watched a pristine Swedish Mauser rifle sell for 110 bucks:eek: Darn being late.!!
