I know the feeling this year. I suppose we will get some of that soon. I got a plow for my truck today and need to get it on soon I am thinking.

Dan,

Fine Post!

In my 26 years of living in NH; many times I shovelled "chance of flurries!" Our PA rifle deer season opens this coming Monday. We have a forecast of rain/snow mix. If it snows, I will hunt with a "1938" made M70 .30-06. If it rains, I will hunt with a Yugo M48A.

Dan,

You have a fine way of reckoning! This is my first Winchester M70 and I did find the safety a bit of a challenge. I also noted it is very close to the rear end of the scope and glove use is another challenge.

Predicated on your sage advice, I will take the venerable M70 afield in a plastic garbage bag to shield any rain on opening day. If I see a BIG buck, the bag comes off, the gun gets wet and the deer gets tagged-in that order.

Be well, my friend.

LOL, Post war 70's are on the other side. My first pre war..#295XX was a "lil awkward" but I got used to it....
Ole time 70 aficionados also added trigger shoes.....when I got that one, I was too young n dumb to know better so it worked fine!!!
Have fun
Dan
:D

Up in the hills, people still get glassey eyed when they see me with one over my shoulder....

I was driving up from Jonesboro, AR tonite and it was spitting snow...not bad for this time of year...when I was a kid it was common to have cold Novembers.

I don't really buy all this global warming stuff, but there's no doubt that for years we have had much milder winters in our part of the country.

Our gun season opened Monday. Alarm went off, heard it raining cats and dogs, wind blowing sideway's. Being a old fart, I turned off the alarm and went back to sleep. Did go out around noon but took the bow. Very windy, suspected the deer were hunkered down. Oh well, there is always tomorrow.
