Yukon hunting and fishing

Moose numbers were really down in 2008. They opened up bison hunting just to give us an alternative. Only now we have to actually get out of our trucks to track them down because the bison have wised up enough to associate engine noise with hunters. If you've ever wondered what it's like to hunt or fish in the Yukon, check out my YouTube video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkWK80ZNqfM

Excellent video! Thanks for making it! I admire you for following your dreams and doing what you're doing. And I'm a little envious... someday I'd like to move to some remote mountains (but not as remote as yours). But first I have to get my youngest thru college.

Take good care,
Mike

Mike, thanks for the kind words.

I see you're from Colorado. I lived there for many years before moving to Canada. I really loved it there-- in fact, I think of the Yukon as Colorado on steroids.

Until you can fulfill your dreams, I hope you're able to take short trips into the hinterland as your kids grow up, and that they're able to enjoy the wilderness with you. It's such a great experience to have early in life, and Colorado is full of opportunities to do just that. It's a beautiful state.

How difficult would it be for an outsider to hunt up there? Sounds like plenty of moose and bear... For example, do you have to hire a guide? Is there public land, etc?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike, the quick answer is that if you're not a Yukon resident and a Canadian citizen, you'll need to hire a guide. But here are the details from the folks who make the rules: http://www.environmentyukon.gov.yk.c...unt2008-09.php. That link takes you to info about the bison hunts, but you'll see links to other big game hunting info as well. For anyone interested in small game-- i.e., the stuff that flies, you don't need to hire a guide. Hope that helps.
