Cops getting out of hand

Anyone following this Michael Phelps thing? A picture surfaces of him taking a hit off a bong from several months ago and the azzhat sheriff wants to make a federal case out of it.

Pinhead Leon Lott is making a big deal out of it. Gee, seeing that richland county has no less than 57 unsolved MURDERS, you'd think that swine would have other things to do.

On top of that, he spent $300,000 to buy a some sort of tank thing from the government, complete with belt fed .50 cal. This dude is seriously off his rocker. I mean, really...seriously...the local barney fife needs a .50? It appears he is trying to compensate from some shortcomings.:D

I think you have a classic apples and oranges thing going.

Phelps just does not get it. Hey clown, you are getting paid millions to be a squeeky clean poster boy for amature athletics. He is just plain stupid. Then he flapps his jaw and says yep, I broke the law and that is a picture of me doing it.... Now put yourself in a cop's position, if you are the head cop of the city or county what must you do? This clown left you no choice, really, to get up on national TV and say "I broke the law" a cop has little choice but to at least try to bust him or he must turn in his badge.

The tank and 50 cal is a seperate issue, but on the face it does sound like the heveyweight bout of the year between stupid and moron. Barney VS Guber.
Best,
Ed

Then why isn't A-Rod being charged with possession of steroids since he admitted to using them? About the only way these steroid users get any punishment is when they lie under oath and get charged with perjury later on.

Pro sports, and some amateur levels, are utterly pathetic. I'm an avid cyclist and race a decent amount. Used to race a lot as a teenager. The amount of performance enhancing drugs being used in cycling is pathetic. We've even had some people at the amateur level get busted.

Personally, I think the marijuana issue with Phelps is a non-issue, even if he is charged. Put him on probation and call it a day. How many first time pot offenders actually get jail time.

As much as I think Phelps is an ass for allowing himself to be in that situation, I think the law is the last of his worries. That stint likely cost him millions of dollars in endorsements. I know some of his sponsors pulled the plug on him and others didn't.

Amazing the Human Being! Strive for success then allow self to implode once you get there.

Do the crime = Do the time and that goes for all of them. What a dumb butt

According to a recent news report, the sheriff's office in that county is an elected position. Phelp's dumb stunt aside, this may be as much about politics as it is about crime.

Being that it's such a publicized case perhaps he's under a lot of pressure to do something.

I think all the Sheriffs are elected and they always causes problems and politics. Most are a four year term.

skeet 02-15-2009 12:08 PM

The Sheriff's

Yep...think they are all elected..and politics and law enforcement really don't do well together..except occassionally.:D Actually law enforcement now days is as much as about raising money as it is about enforcing the law. But it is a necessity I guess. People don't seen to have any common sense anymore..Course neither does the law sometimes:rolleyes:

Not all sheriffs are elected. Some are appointed by city/town mayors, etc. That may be a regioanal difference, I don't know.

Nulle 02-16-2009 11:34 AM

The Police Cheif is appointed but never heard of a Sheriff being set up that way.

skeet 02-16-2009 12:37 PM

Police Chiefs etc

Nulle,
That is the way I always thought it was. Sheriffs were almost all duly elected. Police chiefs were appointed.. Police commissioners are sometimes elected to keep an eye on the police. Sometimes appointed also. Originally the sheriff was elected to collect taxes etc. Constables town marshals town sheriffs etc were supposed to enforce the law and were usually hired by the town fathers.

I did some checking - as I have been wrong one time before lol + New York they are elected from what I find.
