need to learn
Can any one explain how to deal with small game? ie.rabbits squirrel pheasant, dove,
|
Always approach from behind....they might still be alive and you would'nt want to go toe-to-toe with a pissed squirrel or rabbit! (hehe) Just kidding.
I actually have no experience field-dressing small game....sorry I can't help. |
Have you checked out You tube? I've found a lot of info there, including how to set traps, skin raccoons, ect. Maybe there are some videos on processing small game.
|
Just went and checked....there are some how-to videos there on the subject....just type in 'how to clean a rabbit", "how to clean a squirrel", "How to clean a dove", ect.
Good luck......... |
Thanks
The girlfriend started raising rabbits, pheasants and doves.andI figured i better learn how to clean them before fall.
|
Rabbit -> hold by rear leg, pinch fur/skin at knee joint peel away fur/skin. cut off head sharp knife to gut.
Dove -> hold dove in weak hand breast up; Strong hand grasp craw pinch and peel away feathers and skin ; insert thumb at end of breast peel breast away from carcass remove wings *Leave one if regulations require during transport. |
Pheasants, grouse, any birds no bigger than a chicken you can do this....
Quick an clean. Lay the bird on it's back, step on both wings where they connect to the body. Get a good grip on both legs and PULL. The breast will pop right out, no guttin, no fuss. I've even done it on turkey, but you need two strong dudes on each wing and leg to pul the breast out this way. |
