Cast iron pans
Anyone use these? I just refurbished a set that I had and I love them. A little heavy, but I think they are the cat's meow. How about it?

i youse them every day

I have a 12" cast iron skillet that I use often. It distributes the heat quite evenly (I guess that's what they're supposed to do) and has developed a nice carbon-coating making it virtually non-stick (although I still use a small amount of fat when cooking potentially sticky items - e.g., biscuits).

I use cast iron pans quite often. Heavy, yes, but they do a great job.

I got a full set/skillets/pots and dutch ovens. They were given to me by a ole rancher we usta hunt on in Texas. They were 100 years old then!!!!! Do not soap em.....re season with lard or unsalted pork rind ever so often n put in a low oven for a couple of hours!I would not part with em!

Cast Iron
We have quite a few cast iron(known as Arn) We have a few Griswolds that stay on the stove. Momma cleans 'em ever now and then.. But she gets 'em clean then uses a little lard on 'em and puts 'em on the wood stove to make 'em right. I think Dan has the right way to season 'em..but momma likes to do it "her way":)..It's what her daddy taught her. I like cookin chile in the cast arn dutch over pot. Works good. Had some yesterday. But I didn't have no corn bread.. Like it cooked in a cast arn pan too.

A cast iron Dutch oven is the only way to cook biscuits.

Absolutely the best way to cook. We use an old well-seasoned cast iron skillet and have a couple of newer dutch ovens. Good corn bread must be cooked in a cast iron skillet or dutch oven (with no sugar!).

THOSE GRIZWOLDS are COLLECTOR items now...dont part with em...

When my mother died she had my grandmother's dutch oven and about a dozen or so cast pieces. That dutch oven makes the best pot roast, brown the roast, a little seasoning and water and in the oven it goes with the lid on. She also has my grandmother's low side biscuit cast pan. I have eaten a many a great meal from those pans.
