Home made pan brush?

Hello all;
I have a deer hide that is starting to disintegrate, and I have given some to my friend for fly tying, but I would like to use some of it for a pan brush for my flintlock.

Anyone here ever make their own? If so, how did you do it?
Thanks in advance........

Well, 60 views and no replies.....:( So I did a little experimenting. I took a .22 magnum empty (fired) casing and cut the head off. I then threaded a loop of 15 lb test fishing line through it, and then put a large clump of deer hair through the loop. I then pulled on the fishing line to pull the deer hair up into the casing, and then crimped the casing to hold the hair in place, and then trimmed the hair down to an even size. Works O.K......would like the hairs to be a bit 'stiffer', but it seems to work for light duty. I'll try and post a pic at some time (daughter's away at college....she is my computer "go to" guy:D)

For stiffer pristles you would need to starch the hairs, or use something like boar bristles I would think, but what do I know.

Mr. 16 gauge,

Animal fur should work just fine. Maybe crimping hairs into an empty 20 gauge brass shotgun shell would make a serviceable brush.

Pretty good idea Mr. 16...maybe be a way to use some of those small turkey beards from a jake or such...they are pretty stiff....If you check back in the archives of build it yourself, I posted a turkey beard mounted with beads and the old brass from the shell..inside the brass where I removed the cap is where a snap swivel from fishing was inserted...maybe one of these can be used in your flattened shell case so as to attach a lanyard? Would like to see your finished item..I miss all these good ideas in the 'build it yourself' page.
