A .50 Smoothbore Hawken Flinter.
I prefer Flinters to Percussion muzzleloaders. I have far too many of both on establishment and shoot them all year around. The Caplocks are very reliable and when hunting bears and such like, I would take my .54 Renegade Percussion with a Maxi ahead of 100 grains of 2F Goex.
For targets and deer, I prefer the flinters. A .50 Smoothbore allows me to use patched Ball or #6 shot for October hunting season in Pennsylvania.This is "Big Woods" country and a smoothbore effective to 75 yards is okay. Adam |
Hello Adam;
What type of sights do you have on that .50 cal smoothbore......are they typical rifle sights, or is it just a bead? I have my 62 cal Trade musket (flintlock & smoothbore), but I still need a lot of practice with it before I will be able to hit a deer with it.....at ANY range!:( |
Mr. 16 gauge,
My .50 smoothbore Hawken has the typical adjustable rear sight and post front sight. Adam |
