Restoring an old harrow.
A neighbor offered me a 12-foot wide harrow for taking it away. I also got 4"teeth" to install in the gaps in the 3 rows of spring teeth. The harrow is set up for 3 rows 4 feet wide of teeth and each of the 3 "gangs of 4 feet" has its own depth control handle.
I finally drilled the holes in the base of the teeth to fit the brackets on the frame to mount the teeth. I used a ratchet and twisted off a few of the rusty bolts. A trip to the hardware store got replacement bolts. The harrow (some locals call it a "drag") ,set deep, did a wonderful job tilling both of our gardens. The neighbor thinks the drag is about 90 years old and was horse-drawn in the Early Days. Well, it still works great and someone else will use it 90 years from now. Adam |
Good for you, I hate to see a perfectly functional piece of equipment go to waste just because it is "old". How about including some pics?

Your "new" harrow would be pretty cool to have and restore. Any pictures? |
jplonghunter,
LOL! You are a wit. We have a scanner function on the printer and a new digital camera. I am an old guy, BUT I will do a lot of reading and post some pictures here soon. Adam |
