Powder horns....anyone make thier own?

Picked up my Hawken this past weekend from the BP shop (had new sights installed).....while there, they had a barrel full of raw cow horns. Thought this might make an interesting "do-it-yourself" project. Have any of you made your own powder horns in the past? If so, where did you find your instructions?
Thanks in advance..............

Mr. 16 gauge,

I have made several powder horns out of raw horns.

I go to my shop and scribe the big end of the horn and cut a PLUG out of quarter-inch wood scrap. I put the plug in the vise and use a wood rasp to shape it. I try it time and again in the horn. When fitted to enter with a "Snug" fit, I put wood glue on the plug, insert it in the big end of the horn and put 4 brass screws into the outside perimeter.

After the glue dries, I put a screw-eye adapter into the big end for a leather thong. The other end goes on the small end of the horn. I had no instructions, I just worked it out in my shop.
