Military Rifle Stocks
 

When you have surplus military rifles you will need to have some extra stocks around. They come in handy to dress up a military rifle or remilitarize a rifle that has a stock that has been cut. I am fortunate that my local gunsmith gives me any military stocks that come through his shop. Last evening, an old friend from Kentucky called and was looking for a surplus rifle. I steered him to a gun shop with many surplus arms. Before he hung up, he said his gunsmith was going to sporterize a few Mausers and did not want the military stocks. I now have several stocks coming my way. I may be able to trade one for a Springfield stock that I need. Isn't this fun? All the best...

When I bought my Polytech M-14, the fellow who had the gun previously had taken and 'refinished' the stock.....so here is a 'military' rifle with a matte grey metal finish.....and the shiniest stock you ever did see!!!!:eek:

So I bought a surplus military stock that was kinda beat up....bunch of nicks, dings, ect. Also had the cut out for the full auto selector switch. No matter..I took a piece of walnut I had lying around and spliced it in to fill in the where the full auto switch went, then sanded it down so it was smooth. I then took and painted it flat olive drab (two coats) and let it dry completely. I then took and tore off long strips of masking tape (length-wise) and put them on the stock in a random fashion. I then took some of the camo paint I normally use on my duck boats and spray painted 'blotches' on the stock. I then removed the tape after the spray paint had dried; the result was a nice imitation of 'tiger stripe' camo.:D
Wanted to try this technique on one of my duck guns, but just haven't had the chance yet.:)

Kinda keepin' my eye out for another stock (gotta be at the right price, dontchaknow!;)) so I can do the same thing, only in a snow camo pattern (i.e. spray paint it white!)

when i got my winchester model 88 it was cut down for a kid i happened to be walking around at a gun show when i looked down and there was one for 95 bucks.
My freinds like to tease me and say i fell in a bucket becouse i got a deal on the 88 becouse of the stock and i know i could not have got a stock for 95.bucks the cheapest i found 150.
The sad part was the stock that was cut was a real early one with cut checkering the one i bought was later with the press.
