Russian Capture Kar98k

I was in a gun shop just looking around and a store clerk asked me to identify a military rifle that just came in. It was '98 Mauser marked byf (Mauser Works) 43 (made in 1943) and the exterior had the Nazi markings scrubbed off. There was a small "x" stamped on to top of the receiver ring that was put there by Ivan. I asked the clerk to run a brush and some patches through the bore. After the cleaning, the bore was just about perfect. It was cheap and I liked it so I bought it. If you want a German Mauser from WWII, the Russian capture rifles are available at reasonable prices and at a fraction of the cost of an original. Check the bores very carefully because most Russian capture rifles that I have examined had badly pitted bores. All the best...

Gil,

I saw one of those K98k rifles at the local gunshop. It had crossed rifles on the receiver and a varnish finish on the stock. It was dated 1942 and was in Good to Fair condition.

The 98K 8mm is a good rifle to shoot. I have the 22 cal insert with all the clips/etc but am looking for a bolt for that part as some AHole stole the bolt when they broke in years ago...no bolts so far have replaced it and I will prob have to find gunsmith to cut one to size..I been all over the web lookin.....so I for now just shoot the 8mm..fun gun. Enjoy.
