July 4th Muster....
On Thursday, July 4th several early days flintlock shooters will amass on my farm for a sleep over in my West Woods half-faced camp, rustic campfires, musket shoots and a pig roast. It is our nation's birthday and it seems to me, each year fewer and fewer folks appreciate the role of firearms in our history. We will offer "Living History" in Lambs Creek on July 4, 2013.

Lotsa stuff goin on round here with the 4th coming..we have so many touristas here it ain't funny. I'm goin up on the mountain and pan for gold...well... sluice it first..then pan.

Sounds like a blast Adam!
Skeet, I have panned for gold in the rockies as a teen, and I always had fun doing it. I hope you find more than you expect, but that you don't get the fever in the process. Richard |
Pannin and such
GOB..I did a bit of panning and such up in Alaska. It isn't often that you find much gold. Best I ever found was a chunk of Quartz with maybe a 1/4 ounce of ribbon gold in it. A fellow I knew really wanted it for a necklace for his better half(for want of a better term). I got a lot of money for it and it surely did turn out to be pretty. I must admit if you work at it in many areas you can make a bit of money..but as they say..just usually wages..and that ain't perzackly great sounding. I mean it sounds like werk!!

hehe yeah All I was really getting in those days was flake. But it's how I spent my vacation while everybody else went to see one more "local treasure". Found out a place in golden Colorado called..... I forget. The restaurant on top of the store was called the golden ram, can't remember the store name. Anyway there was a bank in the store that would weigh and buy gold. Saw several real old fashioned gold paners and miners trade in.... at the end of vacation I did too. Was enough to buy some trinkets I thought were important at the time, and buy a good meal. Enjoyed every minute of it. Even if that river was cold as ice the whole time :p

skeet,
We have five families coming to eat and five guys to camp out. It rained 3.2 inches here yesterday and rain is forecast for the 4th. We may just cookout and take a rain check on the half-faced camp. Adam |
Yeah
I like that .. a rain check on the half faced camp.. We saw rain here..once. Been talkin to a friend in Md and they have had what he calls ..about 'nuff rain too. Another friend back there told me his corn is the prettiest he has ever seen. He has un-irrigated ground where the corn is and it is a bit sandy soil..so in a normal year it kinda dries up a bit on the hills. Talked with a frien here and we are gonna go gold pannin on Friday. I have a spot up on the side of a mountain that showed a bit of color last year but the water was too high to work it good. Hopefully this year. Believe it or not it is at a bit better than 10,000 ft. The grizz are out and about up there too. I carry an old 1100 slug gun with mag tube extension when I go up in the mountains panning. 9 slugs should make anything think twice....I hope
As far as rain. We usually get about 4-5 inches here. We have gotten that much already this year. But lookin at the Clarks Fork River yesterday..even with the rain up in Montana and in some of the mountains..it looks like the big snow melt is over for the year. Hope it clears out and ya have a great time on the 4th. Hope everyone that reads this has a great and safe 4th of July:D |
Adam
Sounds like fun. Enjoy. All the best...
