I'd say that eBay is no different than any other really big operation: some of what they do is superb, and some of what they do is flawed, some of the people in it are great and some are slime, some of what you see there is genuine and some of it is fool's gold.
The trick is in telling the difference.
I've dealt with good sellers (and buyers!) on eBay, and I've been burned by things that may have been described correctly - but not completely. Fortunately, I've never been faulted for anything I've listed, but the chance for misunderstanding is always present.
On the other hand, I'll agree completely that in regards to anything gun-related, eBay is an ass.
