Pope and Young Entries
A total of 15,043 P&Y entries were mapped, including 43 states and 1,774 counties or 56 percent of the counties in the country. The distribution is similar to the B&C entries, although the pattern widens, including 757 additional counties. The top 10 states account for 11,206 or 74 percent of the entries and are identical to the top B&C states, except Kentucky is not included while Michigan is. Amazingly, the top four states (WI, IL, IA, OH) account for 50 percent of the entries.
The counties and regions that produce B&C entries also tend to produce large numbers of P&Y entries. The pattern in these core areas darkens and expands, such as in Wisconsin and Illinois, where virtually all counties produce numerous entries. The P&Y map includes some interesting clustering in areas not included on the B&C map, such as the Atlantic Coast from Maryland to Connecticut, western New York, and southern Michigan.
