Our state makes a distinction between a gun that is loaded, and one that contains ammunition. It's loaded if it's an automatic, and there is a cartridge in the chamber, or if it's a revolver and one actuation of one mechanism will cause it to discharge. Otherwise, it's containing ammunition. By that rule, a Single Six is loaded only if the hammer is cocked, and a Redhawk is loaded, period.
I quite worrying about such subtleties when I got a concealed carry permit.
