Bruce Canfield covered Trench Guns in his book, "U.S. Infantry Weapons of World War II." On page 123 he discusses the Remington M10. The government acquired 20,000 M97 Winchesters adapted to the M1917 bayonet and then acquired Remington M10s with "an unusual wooden handguard rather than the ventilated metal type found on the Winchester." If that M10 Remington had a wooden handguard, then you saw an original WWI trench gun.
