No, Im not trying to talk you out of it. Not by a long shot. Just depends on what you want to do.

I have shot them side by side with a 223AI. That little pill does drift less than the 224 at shorter distances. But, with the BC, it does run out of gas quicker at longer ranges.

For what I do with mine, you cant beat it. The only factory cartridge on the market that MIGHT be in the same league is the 204 and thats yet to be proved. But, what I do with mine, 100 yards is a long shot. 200 yards is very long. Logest kill I have made was just under 290.

I think Blaine has killed coyotes at very long ranges with a 17Rem, but I havent personally.

Again, its a fur gun. Its a specialty fur gun at that. It shines on called animals. If your shooting at called animals over 100 yards consistantly, you need to work on your calls and setups. (Other than possibly the sandhills or such areas, and still you should be able to get them closer.) But, if you wanna call coyotes, foxes, bobcats and maybe some other predators, kill them cleanly and have as little damage as possible to the fur, the 17 is king.

If you wanna truck gun to sling lead as far as you can see through a ten power scope, this aint it.

Thats my .02

Andy
