I hear ya Wolvie.
I hear all this talk about public transportation. What public transportation? Where I live, I have to drive. Alot. Usually over 40,000 miles per year. If I wanna keep doing what Im doing, and I do. Hell, its over two miles just to go to a convenience store. My wife has to drive approx 55 miles per day to work. The town closest to us, you cant get a job paying over about $10 per hour, unless your a professional or lucky enough to get into management at one of the few places that do have management positions.
If we all needed to utilize public transportation, in the real world, we would all have to live in cities. NO THANKS. We have had that discussion before and I would rather go back to horses than do that.
As for all the cars, I put a pencil to that. I thought that was the way to go. I could use a car for work and keep my truck just for pulling my camper, boat and hunting. Wont work. If I bought a cheaper driving car that got better fuel mileage, it would be worn out way before it ever paid for itself in fuel. Thats factoring in the cost of the car, insurance and the fuel it burns compared to what my truck burns.
Jabba,
With all do respect, BS. Rising fuel costs result in rising shipping which results in higher candy bars and higher sodas. Im not against oil companies making a profit. They should, just like everyone else. But they dont have to completely shaft us and get all the money. Which is where its headed.
Wolvie,
I dont think we got a choice but to fight WWIII. I think we are already doing it. I dont necessarily think its going to be over oil, but that will no doubt be a factor. I dont want it on our soil though, for several reasons. One, Im selfish. I dont want what I have worked for to be lost in war. And, historically, it seems to me that whoevers turf wars are fought on, lose. I would rather take the fight to them.
I do think some of it will be (already has been) fought on our soil. JMO.
I also think we need to toughen up a bit. When we whip someones butt that has a load of oil, we get cheap oil. Dont have to rob them, just get whats coming to us. They can still make money. Thats why I dont understand why were not getting cheap oil from Iraq and Kuwait.
