I didn't read the entire Snopes article, but I read enough to know that this guy already knows he screwed up and that he sent an e-mail out to all his buddies about 2 months later telling them that and asking to forward said e-mail on to whomever they forwarded the first e-mail to.
As a result, I don't think you need to e-mail him to let him know he screwed up. I think Snopes did a good enough job of it and I think he did the honorable thing after finding out he screwed up.
Just do not forward this e-mail on to other people.
