Well, I'm sure there are better methods than the way I do it.
I dab some Bore Butter on the grooves of my Minie ball with my fingers , then put the Minie ball in some home made wooden loading blocks. The blocks hold 4 Minie balls (friction fit) , and when the ball is in the loading block, the grooves are inside the wood block, so they don't grease up everything, and pick up grit.
The loading block has a recess on the bottom to fit over my rifle muzzle. Put the loading block on the muzzle, put the short starter against the nose of the bullet, give it a whack, and the bullet's started.
When I go hunting, a full loading block goes in my pocket (I don't use a possibles bag, usually).
At the range, I don't use the loading blocks, I just dab some Bore Butter on the bullet just before I load it.
