270 vs 06

Well M-70..it is apparent you do like the 270 and I have to say you are dead on with this one. The 06 is a pretty accurate cartridge as has been proven over the last 99 years. But it surely isn't any more accurate in the average rifle than any other cartridge. We all have a favorite rifle or cartridge and I do have to say the 06 really isn't the one to try to learn with. The 270 is a little easier to shoot than the 06 for the most part.....the smaller 06...25-06 that is... is even easier for a newbie to learn to shoot well. That's what I really learned with....even though I prefer the 270 over the 25 I have lots of different caliber center fire rifles. So that is why I don't usually recommend any one cartridge over another. You have to find what works best for you. I think if I were going to buy one rifle(as a new rifleman) for all around use it would be either the 270 or the 280. Hard to beat either one in my opinion...especially for a starter rifle...Buy the 30 cals after you learn to cope with the lighter recoiling numbers
