So what kind of groups does the 30/06 posses that the .270 just can't muster? I find it very hard to believe that you could take a Savage bolt action off the shelf in 30/06 and .270, test a few factory loads in each and see a SIGNIFICANT advantage in group size with the '06.
I wish I could take the advice of some magazine article and go by that alone. Maybe I'm just a piss-poor shot but I saw no smaller groups in the 30/06 I shot vs. the one in my .270 I hunht with every year.
First time users? Yeah, the .270 pushing a 130gr. bullet is far worse to start the first time user out with than a 30/06 with a heavier bullet selection
