If I decided to take a hacksaw to a Grade V Browning Citori to use it as a home defense gun, what busines is that of yours?

My suggestion would be that if you want to save all the collectibles, which would be wonderful I might add, then pony up the dough and fill your safe. Don't legislate and chastise a fellow gun owner for his personal desires.

To each his own.

i agree that you should be able to do whatever you want with what you buy, and the finnish 91/30 is debatable.
However the series 70 1911, whatever your likes or dislike, was new in box, unfired, and production stopped 40 years ago.
it is absolutley irreplaceable. Sure series 70's are still around but not in that condition, and except for museum collections, they damn sure aren't unfired.

it would be like finding an original 1932 coupe, factory new, undriven, and stripping it down for a streetrod.

The grade V browning Citori, is replaceable as they are still being produced to my knowledge, big difference.

As for me buying it, if i had the cash i would, i already have $3k worth of stuff down there in layaway, with about a third of it paid off.

as for whether it was sold to him or not, that's between him and the shop owner, and i had nothing to do with whether it was sold to him or not. Had it been i would have thought it stupid sure, but it would have been his property then, and he could do what he wants with it, no matter what I or anyone else thought of it.

he may think i am an idiot, and i think he's an idiot, but thats the great thing about opinions, everyone has their own. At no time, did i comment about his selection until he personally asked me why i chuckled. He asked, i answered, if he doesn't like my answer, tough.

I made one unasked for comment, I poointed out to him there were other sereis 70's there available, that were not collector pieces, simply because it is possible he didnt know that one was such a piece.

If i see something i consider to be stupid, first i'll try to find out why it's being done, hell i just might learn soemthing.
If i still think it's stupid after finding out, then your damn right I'll say something about it.
