Okay Jon I can see you're in a desperate need for a chocolate fix. I'll pull out the Ol' Steele County Cook Book ... One of the reasons they put the Mayo Clinic in southern Minnesota!
1c Sugar
2 eggs, beaten
2 Squares Chocolate, melted
1c Flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 c chopped nuts, if desired
1/2 c shortening (butter is preferred)
1/2 c milk
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
Cream shortening and sugar together; add beaten eggs, milk and the flour sifted with salt and baking powder. Add melted chocolate, vanilla and nuts. Pour into a greased 9x13 pan and bake at 350 for 25 to 30 minutes.
Jon, Most often 2 squares of chocolate are referring to semi sweet bakers chocolate which come pre-wrapped in the box. In the weights and measures section of the book 1 square = 1 oz.
If I'm not mistaken 1 oz = 32 grams
The area has a heavy German/ Austrian/ Bohemian influence so its a good possibility many of the recipes may have originally started in Germany in some form. It's kind of ironic to be sending one back.
If this one doesn't work, I've got 8 more and frosting recipes to go with. Nothing I've ever cooked out of this book has been bad or low calorie
