I have the pleasure of having fired a .575 Nyati elephant rifle. It was built on a standard Win Model 70 action: just over ten pounds.
Without the heavy-duty muzzle brake, that gun develops 240 ft-lbs of recoil. It's impossible to stay on your feet, they say. You don't shoot it to stop an elephant's charge - you shoot it to instantly remove yourself from the tusker's path!
With the brake, it was about like a .458 Winnie - and the back blast would smartly remove ball caps from observers!
I fired two shots, but at $20 a trigger pull, the fun runs out in a hurry.
A 50 BMG? Cap gun.
