my experience with muzzleloaders
I have been through a dozen CVA's. I found that if they would go off they would shoot straight, but the workmanship was terrible and they didn't always go off.
I have had four Thompsons. They shoot better than I do and they go off reliably. Mostly. I have had problems in cold weather with my last two locks dropping the hammer to half cock. Thompson stands behind their product and I can't say enough good things about their customer service.
If I had it to do over again I would get a White Mountain Carbine (I am not sure they're still made) from Thompson. Yes, it's more work but it's a good, short, powerful, portable, accurate, fun weapon.
And once you've bought him the muzzeloader, there are all sorts of miscellaneous cool things to keep buying him.
While I don't like CVA rifles, their accessories are pretty darn nice.
IMHO
