Rocky's approach is the correct one.

Sweet's is just a mixture of about 2/3 10% ammonia and 1/3 liquid detergent. In the long term, the ammonia gas escapes, leaving water and detergent. You don't want detergent to build up in the barrel, and you don't want water left standing where it can rust. A clean patch mechanically removes the water and residue, and an oiled patch displaces the water, and protects the metal.
